Naturverbundenheit der Kinder auf tiefem Niveau

Wie naturverbunden sind die Kinder in Grossbritannien? Dieser Frage ist die «Royal Society for the Protection of Birds» (RSPB) zusammen mit Forschenden der Universität Essex nachgegangen. Im Rahmen der Studie wurde eine klare Definition der Verbundenheit zur Natur erarbeitet sowie eine Methode, um sie zu messen. Die Resultate sind bedenklich: Der Grossteil der Kinder zwischen 8 und 12 Jahren hat keinen oder einen sehr geringen Bezug zur Natur.
Quel est l’attachement des enfants à la nature en Grande-Bretagne? Cette question s’est posée la «Royal Society for the Protection of Birds» (RSPB) avec des chercheurs de l’Université d’Essex. Dans le cadre d’une étude, ils ont élaboré une définition claire de l’attachement à la nature et une méthode permettant de la mesurer. Les résultats sont inquiétants: la majorité des enfants entre 8 et 12 ans n’a aucun ou très peu de relation avec la nature.
Getting all children connected with nature develops deeply-held feelings and attitudes towards wildlife and the world we all live in. With the kind support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and the University of Essex, the RSPD has established a clear definition of connection to nature, and a method for measuring it. For the first time, this research reveals how connected to nature children are across the UK. The national results show that currently only 21 per cent of 8–12 year olds have a connection to nature level that the RSPD considers a realistic and achievable target for all children.
The recent State of Nature report shows that nature in the UK is disappearing – 60 per cent of species assessed have declined over recent decades. Not only can children take action to help turn this around, but they will also benefit from having more contact with nature.
The RSPD believes that everyone has a role to play in putting nature back into childhood – including governments, local authorities, schools and families.
