Understanding and managing ecological novelty - towards an integrative framework of the socio-ecological impacts of novel organisms, Monte Verita 4-9 September 2011

Anthropogenic changes are leading to a reshuffling of species assemblies at scales from the local to the global, while novel organisms created in laboratories are entering ecosystems. Because some of these developments have the potential to alter the behaviour of ecological systems, their effects and the risks and potential benefits they pose need to be better understood. The aim of the conference is to bring together experts from different fields and jointly develop an integrative framework to understand the socio-ecological risks and benefits of novel organisms.
